Thread regarding Molina Healthcare (MOH) stock

Is Molina’s cash flow actually as strong as it looks?

olina reported strong operating cash flow, which sounds great at first. But management also said a big part of the increase came from the timing of government payments, receivables, and other working-capital changes.

That doesn’t necessarily mean the business is weak, but it does mean the headline cash-flow number may look better than the underlying performance really is.

The main thing I’d want to know is how much cash Molina can consistently generate during a normal year, without temporary timing benefits. I’d also look at how much of that cash is actually available to the parent company and shareholders, since insurance companies often have to keep cash inside regulated subsidiaries.

Strong cash flow is definitely a positive, but I’d want to see it repeat for several quarters before treating it as a major reason to buy the stock.
